About us.

At the last annual Stroke Nursing Conference which was held at the Aston University in Birmingham, Nurse Consultants circulated a paper to the delegates about the idea of setting up a National Stroke Nursing Forum to elicit their views and ideas. From there a main steering group was established where nurses who had expressed an interest in setting up the forum, have met up to agree how it could be established and what the benefits would be for nurses with an interest in stroke.

Further consultation with our colleagues in Scotland, Ireland and Wales have enabled us to get to the point where we can offer a National Network Forum for nurses with an interest in stroke.

WHAT ARE THE FUNCTIONS OF THE NATIONAL STROKE NURSING FORUM?

  • To provide a forum for discussion between all nurses in the UK with an interest in stroke.
  • To enable sharing of best practice and provide opportunities for bench marking.
  • To facilitate the dissemination of evidence based guidelines.
  • To provide a forum to discuss research that advances the discipline of stroke nursing.
  • To facilitate the development of a career pathway for nurses in the field of stroke.
  • Act as a platform to express the collective views and experiences of members.

HOW WILL IT WORK?

There are three main Steering Groups, initially made up of nurses who have expressed an interest in helping to set up the forum. These three groups will focus on the following areas:
  • Networking and Communication
  • Research, Development and Education
  • Policy and Service Development
Collectively these groups will provide members with up to date information around all these areas of practice.

WHAT ARE THE TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR EACH GROUP?

  • Provide a newsletter to update members on a regular basis with news and information relevant to stroke nursing.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with all links that will help keep members informed about stroke nursing.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF JOINING AND HOW WILL MEMBERS ACCESS INFORMATION?

The members will be able to access all this information through the website and newsletter and by networking with colleagues across the United Kingdom via a chat room and contact service. Networking will also take place at the AGM.
